Weston's Dorothy Perkins to close permanently, all jobs lost

Online fashion retailer Boohoo has bought the Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, and Burton brands from failed retail group Arcadia for £25.2m. The deal includes the brands and online businesses but not the 214 shops or 2,450 workers employed in them.

This news brings yet another blow to Weston-super-Mare's High St, which has seen a number of national and independent retailers close its doors for the last time since the pandemic first hit in March 2020.

Cllr Mark Canniford, Mayor of Weston-super-Mare and portfolio holder for the economy and community safety of North Somerset Council said; "It's really disappointing to see another major site on the High Street closed but as with all the others it is out of our councils control and it is a reaction to national circumstances.

We just have to keep looking for opportunities and rebuilding the structure around Weston town centre to encourage residents and businesses back in is one such way, but quite clearly the future is in independent businesses setting up and driving the local economy forward."
